Christy Anderson

Ms. Christy Anderson grew up in Ashland, Kentucky and has been teaching for twenty years, with ten of those years at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, a Master’s Certification in School Counseling from Capella University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Jones International University. Ms. Anderson is the assistant prom coordinator and the freshman class adviser. She is married to Keith Anderson and has one son, Slater Anderson. She enjoys spending time with her son, reading, exercising, hiking, camping, and drinking coffee.

Bruce Christianson

Bruce Christianson grew up in Wisconsin. He has been teaching in Alaska for 21 years. Bruce is the special education coordinator and teaches English at Mt Edgecumbe. He is married and has an 8 year old daughter. Mr. Christianson enjoys photography and travel.

Marcia Drake

Mrs. Drake grew up in Montana and has been teaching for 15 years, 7 at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. S/he has an English teaching degree from the Montana State University in Bozeman. Mrs. Drake coaches Drama, Debate and Forensics. She is also graduation coordinator. Mrs. Drake is married to Randy and they have 2 children in college. Mrs. Drake enjoys reading, traveling and cooking.

Michael Hay

Mr. Hay grew up in Michigan and has been teaching for 13 years, five at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He has a bachelor’s degree in history and English education. Mr Hay is currently working on a master’s degree in reading instruction. In addition to teaching English and Pacific Rim Cultures, he advises MEAYEA (Mt. Edgecumbe Youth for Environmental Action). He enjoys biking, fishing, snowboarding, and reading science fiction and fantasy. He is married and has a son.

Blu Jacoby

Ms. Jacoby grew up in Sitka and has been teaching for 7 years at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. She has a Master’s degree in the Arts of Teaching, as well as a Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts with emphases in English and biology.
Ms. Jacoby coordinates the Junior Class Prom. Ms. Jacoby is married to Mike Jacoby and has two children. She enjoys camping, hunting, riding 4-wheelers, reading and working with young people.

Emily Routon

My name is Emily Routon. This is my 8th year in Alaska, my 6th year teaching and my 4th year teaching at Mount Edgecumbe. I have a B.S. in elementary education and a M. ED as a Reading Specialist. Here at MEHS I teach Content Reading, Spanish and Health and Wellness. I help with the Cross Country team in the fall. I enjoy anything that involves the outdoors, have a wonderful husband and precious little 1 year old daughter.

Jixin Tan

Mr. Tan grew up in Chang Chun, Jilin providence, China and has been teaching Chinese and Math in Alaska since 2010. He has a Master's degree in Secondary Education at University of Alaska Anchorage and holds Mandarin Chinese Level A certificates. Mr. Tan advises China Club, facilitates Edgecumbe's exchange program with our Sister School in Yunnan, Southwest China and coordinate local Chinese Language Program.
Liberal Arts

Stephen Courtright

Mr. Courtright is in his fifth year as a teacher at MEHS and his tenth year as a teacher. He teaches rock band, introduction to music, choir, and Computer 1. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Albion College in Michigan and is seeking a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Southeast. Additionally, he advises the award-winning Mt. Edgecumbe Radio Club, which does a regular show every other week on KCAW, the local community radio station. Mr. Courtright's elementary-aged children take up most of his time away from school, and he enjoys reading and learning new skills when there's a rare moment to rest.

Katie Mulligan

Ms. Mulligan grew up in Knox, IN (till age 9) and Spooner, WI (till age 18) and has been teaching for 9 years, all of those at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education K-12. Ms. Mulligan advises Art Club. She enjoys all art (of course), reading, hiking, spending time with her family, cooking, weaving, sewing, and theatre.

Matt Hunter

Matt Hunter is a life-long Sitka, Alaska resident. He has been teaching at MEHS since 2006. Mr. Hunter teaches Geometry, Algebra 2, Physics, Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT), and Private Pilot Ground School. He earned his B.A. in mathematics and physics from St. Olaf College in 2005 and his M.A.T. from the University of Alaska Southeast in 2006. He is a volunteer EMS Lieutenant with the Sitka Fire Department and currently serves as Deputy Mayor of the City and Borough of Sitka. He enjoys hiking, bicycling, kayaking, reading, and researching local history.

Kevin Gwinn

Mr. Gwinn grew up in Washington state and has been teaching for five years. He has a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics Education from the University of Idaho, and a Master's degree in Mathematics Education. He began teaching in Mountain Village, AK, and spent a year in Healy, AK, before becoming a Mt. Edgecumbe Brave.

Mr. Young grew up in Wrangell, AK and has been teaching for 12 years at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He has a Masters degree in Athletics Administration/Coaching. Mr. Young coaches the Boys Basketball team and Assists with the Volleyball team. He enjoys hunting and traveling the world to hunt, and working with the students of MEHS.

Jack Davis

Mr. ”Jack” John W. Davis, Jr. grew up in Barrow and has been teaching for 21 years, 3 years at Mt. Edgcumbe High School. He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Science from Harding University, and Masters Degree in School Administration From University of Alaska Anchorage. Mr. Davis advises: The Junior Class Mr. Davis married Jennifer Degnan of Unalakleet in 1989, and has 4 children, John, Joy, Joanna and Jesscia. He enjoys digital photography, music on iTunes/iPods, carpentry and home construction, family time, road trips, wrestling, and cross country running.

Michael Mahoney

Mr. Michael Mahoney grew up in Kodiak, Alaska and has been teaching for 14 years at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from Willamette University in Salem, OR and a Masters of Arts in Teaching Degree from UAS, Juneau. Mr. Mahoney advises Student Council and coordinates a Sea-Tech Internship program for students in partnership with Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is married to Michelle Mahoney and has two sons, Cisco and Zane.

Chohla Moll

Hello, my name is Chohla Moll. I am a product of the Alaska School System with my High School Diploma from Sitka High School and my Bachelor's of Science in General Biology and Master's of Arts in Education from the University of Alaska. I am in my 8th year of teaching and my 6th year here at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. I throughly enjoy working with our students and sharing my enthusiasm for science with students from around the State! I teach Integrated Science 2, Marine Biology and Molecular Ecology (aka Genetics). I am also a mentor for the Future Edcuators of Alaska (FEA) and Preparing Indiginous Teachers and Administrators for Alaska's Schools (PITAAS) programs. I spend my free time with my family fishing, boating, hiking, biking, knitting and reading!

Dionne Brady

Ms. Brady-Howard grew up in Sitka and graduated from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in 1991; she has been teaching for seventeen years, fifteen of which have been at MEHS. She taught Geography for twelve years, and she now teaches Alaska History and Pacific Rim Studies, and still teaches U.S. Government. She has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Social Studies. Ms. Brady’s partner is Larry Garrity, and she has several children. She enjoys attending school and community events, Tlingit dancing and drumming, and also watching geeky movies.

Kerry McAdams

Ms. McAdams grew up in both Petersburg, Alaska and northern California. This is her 12th year teaching and her fourth year at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. Ms. McAdams has a Bachelor of Arts in American History with a strong background in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She is married to John Raasch and has two wonderful children. Ms. McAdams enjoys spending time with her family, reading, playing games, baking and many other activities.

Paul Fitzgibbon

Mr. Paul Fitzgibbon grew up in Chicago and has been teaching for 11 years at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He has a Bachelor's degree in American History and Political Science from Colorado College in Colorado Spring, CO. Mr. Fitzgibbon has coached Cross Country with Mr. Josh Arnold for the last 6 years. Mr. Fitzgibbon is married to Karen Zamzow D.C. and has a daughter, Abigail Rain Fitzgibbon. He enjoys spending time with his family, connecting with students fishing, hunting, being outside as much as possible and Alaska History. Go Braves!

My name is Josh Arnold; I am a lifelong Alaskan and a graduate of Sitka High School. I am in my 10th year as a teacher at Mt. Edgecumbe High School and enjoy working with our students. I have the opportunity to teach Computers and PE at MEHS. I also have the pleasure of coaching our Cross Country running team in the fall. I am a fisherman during the summer months and enjoy hiking, hunting, and snowboarding during the winter

Erika Drain

Ms. Drain grew up in Billings, MT and has been teaching for 20 years, 10 at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. She has a Masters degree in Education with emphasis in technology integration, a bachelors in Education with endorsements in elementary education, art education, and library science, and an associates degree in graphic arts, and photography. Ms. Drain advises Battle of the Books. She enjoys reading, rafting, painting, boating, hiking and listening to music.

Mark Nance

Mr. Mark Nance grew up in Anchorage, AK and has been teaching 17 years, 5 at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He has a Master in Information Technology and two Bachelors, one in Math and the second in Secondary Education. Mr. Nance advises the Robotics Competition team. Mr. Nance is married to Heidi Nance and they have 2 children, Kristopher and Ethan Nance. He enjoys fishing, boating and living in Alaska.
